The Washington Redskins have a deal in place to acquire the No. 2 pick in the NFL draft and plan to take Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III, according to a report Friday at FOXSports.com.

Under the deal reported by the website, the Redskins and St. Louis Rams will swap first-round selections this year. The Rams also will receive multiple future first-round draft picks and other selections.

ESPN.com reported St. Louis will receive Washington's first and second-round picks this year, and the Redskins' first-round picks in 2013 and 2014.

The trade moves the Redskins up four places from sixth in the April draft. The Indianapolis Colts are expected to take Andrew Luck with the No. 1 pick.

The Redskins were among the teams hoping to be in the running for Peyton Manning, but the odds were stacked against the former Colts quarterback coming to Washington. The offense needs upgrades at receiver and along the offensive line, and Manning would have had to face his brother Eli Manning of the New York Giants twice a year in the NFC East.

The Rams were in the market to trade because they already have their franchise quarterback, 2010 No. 1 overall pick Sam Bradford.

RB Addai, TE Clark among Colts cuts

Two days after releasing Peyton Manning, Indianapolis announced it was cutting four fan favorites: running back Joseph Addai, linebacker Gary Brackett, safety Melvin Bullitt and tight end Dallas Clark. Quarterback Curtis Painter also was released Friday.

"All these players, we'd love to have them here," new general manager Ryan Grigson said during a hastily arranged conference call with reporters. "It's not easy. It's agonizing. They're (salary) cap casualties. It's hard, but with the money involved you can't do certain things."

And the moves may not be over yet. Grigson declined to comment on a report that Pro Bowl defensive end Dwight Freeney is on the trading block.

Notes

? The Giants released RB Brandon Jacobs after seven years in New York. Jacobs, the fourth-leading rusher in franchise history with 4,849 yards, ran for 571 yards and seven touchdowns last season as the Giants won the Super Bowl.

? The New York Jets extended QB Mark Sanchez's contract by three years and dropped out of pursuing Peyton Manning. Sanchez led the team to the AFC Championship Game in his first two seasons but struggled as the Jets lost their last three games in 2011 to finish 8-8 and out of the playoffs.

? In a letter posted on his foundation's website, New Orleans Saints QB Drew Brees says he has never participated in and was never aware of a "real" bounty program, and there would be no place for players being provided incentives to intentionally injure one another in any sport. He added that fans should reserve judgment until more is known about the league's bounty probe.

? The NFL suspended LB D.J. Williams, DT Ryan McBean and TE Virgil Green of the Denver Broncos for violating the league's policy on performance-enhancing substances. McBean and Williams are suspended for Denver's first six games of the 2012 season. Green is suspended for the team's first four games.

? Detroit Lions DT Ndamukong Suh was pulled over Thursday afternoon and ticketed for speeding.

Police Lt. Robert King said Suh also was cited in his hometown of Portland, Ore., for improperly signaling and not carrying proof of insurance. He was cooperative and released at the scene. King said Suh was driving a BMW 91 mph in a 55 mph zone.
